Geauga County is home to some of Ohio's best farm land. That's why so many of Ohio's Amish community call Geauga County their home.
Geauga comes from a Native American Indian word which means 'raccoon'. And Geauga County certainly lives up to its name as home to a wide variety of wildlife. With some of the best farmland in Ohio, Geauga County offers a huge variety of organically grown produce and free range beef, chicken and pork. Seasonal activities include maple taps, hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, grape and wine festivities, apple butter making and farm tours.
The fertile soil and rolling terrain has also made Geauga County a favored location for the Amish community. With an Amish population of just over 14,000 it is the 4th largest Amish settlement in the world. A rich tradition of farming, woodworking and cheese making has flourished in this area thanks to the influence and customs of these gentle "Plain People".
The proximity of Kirtland Christian Fellowship to many of the communities of Geauga County means that a number of families from the church call this area their home.
