HEALED THROUGH PRAYER

Several years ago, I fell on the ice and dislocated my left shoulder. At the time, I did not realize it, so I picked myself up and went on my way and I began to notice that the shoulder seam of my blouses dropped below my shoulder about one Inch. I could no longer raise my arm above my waist, set the back of my hair, or put my coat on without dropping the coat to the floor and pulling it up by the right arm.

Finally, I went to the doctor. I had dislocated the shoulder and had waited so long the arm and shoulder atrophied and the arm was two inches shorter than the other arm.

At that time we still had Wednesday night prayer meetings and the group continued to pray for me. I went to the doctor for almost three months and the arm was not getting any better. The pain was gone, but the arm was still short and I was told by the doctor that I would have only 50% use of the arm. There was no more he could do. Continued exercise would be necessary for the rest of my life as there was permanent nerve damage.

The Wednesday night group continued their prayers. This continued several more weeks after I stopped going to the doctor. I had accepted what the doctor had said, that I would have limited use of the arm and thought prayer was not helping. I was really a novice at the healing power of the Holy Spirit.

Well into eight months of the injury, we were praising the Lord at the Wednesday night prayer meeting with our hands raised, (my right one, my left one hung at my side). When the power of the Holy Spirit came upon me, I raised my left arm to match the right one. I continued in praise and when we finished our praise, only then did I realize my arm had been healed! Both arms were the same length and my shoulder seam was squared off with my blouse. "By His stripes we are healed" I Peter 2:23.

This was my first experience with healing. But I learned a lesson that night. I go to the Lord first with an accident or an illness.

We are so quick to run to the doctor. It has been made so easy for us with hospitalization. It's all paid for, so why not use it. We need to allow the Lord His choice of healing. II Chronicles 16:12. Allow the Lord His choice of healing, whether it be supernatural of man-instigated. Even man-instigated healings are a gift of God. For He has given gifts of technology to the doctors and nurses.

I fell again last June, 1988, and damaged the shoulder again. But this time, I had prayer and anointing at our cell meeting immediately. I waited on the Lord for a release to see a doctor, many people were praying for me. It was nearly three weeks before the release came, again in the way of a supernatural healing. As we gathered in praise on Sunday morning, unable to raise my left arm, my right arm fully extended praising the Lord, the power of the Holy Spirit fell upon me. The most wonderful warm sensation flowed through my left shoulder and arm and I raised my arm in full extension in praise to the Lord.

We must learn to rest in His timing and care. Knowing that our Father gives only good gifts to His children and that "those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength." Isaiah 40:31.
