Pastor Tim's Notes

“Every Christian who makes progress in holiness is a person who has disciplined his life so that he spends regular time in the Bible. There is simple no other way.” Jerry Bridges – The Pursuit of Holiness

Recently, as I was spending quiet time with the Lord and reading the Bible, this verse jumped off the page and into my heart.

Luke 12:32 (ESV)
32 “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

I was moved by the truth that it is God's good pleasure to give me the Kingdom! God loves us that much! We are heirs to His Kingdom.

BUT THEN I read the next three words in verse 33 – “Sell your possessions…”

There are I sat at my dining room table, the rest of the house sleeping soundly, trying to understand what I had read many times before. It is God’s good pleasure to give me His Kingdom, but I certainly have not sold all my possessions?? I asked the Lord to help me understand what He was saying to me at that moment, and this is what I understood Him to be saying…

Everything belongs to Him, and the things that I am holding on to because they “are mine” are crowding out the Kingdom that He, in His good pleasure, wants to give me. And the Lord is not necessarily talking about “stuff.” I understand Him to be talking about character, ability, and wisdom.

So I am asking the Lord to show me the things I am hanging on to like they “are mine” so I can let them go in order to make room for more of His Kingdom in my life.

How about you – what do you need to let go of to make room for God’s Kingdom in your life!

With the Love of Jesus,
